FREAM is a term, established in the US in the 1950ies. It was used for a group of people who began to rebel against the norm. In 1997, Steve Jobs Apple Computers picked up the term in his famous tv-commercial to talk about the crazy ones, the geniuses, those who are the real shapers of a future world. Today, misfits and rebels have become rare, and where the world has turned, we miss you like crazy.

Re-FREAM offers access to new production technology to re-think the future of the fashion sector by researching novel concepts in a collaborative way between scientists, researches and artists, designers. Our research will re-shape the fashion industry.   Re-FREAM gives fashion artists and designers an extraordinary opportunity to have access to an unknown world: new spaces, new materials, new processes, new professional profiles. Scientists will experience a new way of thinking with creative minds. This offers an amazing and very exciting new learning experience. It gives designers and scientists the possibility to grow professionally.

Innovative technologies are a chance to reshape the fashion industry into a more sustainable and truly customer-driven business. Local manufacturing facilities will be specialized in the Digitally-enabled production, combined with artistic exploration and creativity in design and process revive the social, ecological and economic urban space and create individualized high-tech products and services as well as completely new professional opportunities. These new concepts are based on a collaborative work of researches, clients and artists, in which the co-understanding of technologies and artistic exploration is essential.

Mission

Re- FREAM will enable co-creation of scientists and artists in urban environment by offering facilitation services, access to know-how and technologies as well as mentoring. Re-FREAM opens the doors of the laboratories of researches giving the opportunity to Artists and Designers to co-explore the technology for fashion of the future.

ARTISTS and DESIGNERS will be able to re-think their work in a more scientific way. Vice versa, scientists will be able to re-think their research in a more artistic way. Both groups will benefit from a mutual learning.

Re- FREAM gives scientists, engineers and researchers the opportunity to understand a different way of thinking and acting. Through a truly horizontal co-research methodology, they will learn how to dialogue and co-create with creative minds. Re- FREAM will design  a sustainable open innovation platform with researched technologies, patterns, concepts, learnings for further development of fashion of the future.

Urban Manufacturing

Urban Manufacturing means that production becomes a part of a human living space. it is integrating into human living and creates more proximity to the consumer. It often makes use of local resources and locally embedded value chains.

Re- FREAM explores art-inspired urban manufacturing, where the city becomes a new production space in which high-quality, design-oriented products are created. Especially for fashion, Urban Manufacturing offers a great opportunity to create an alternative to the much criticized production in low-wage countries. This is possible today through new technologies that are currently changing not only the fashion itself, but also the way it is designed and produced. Computer-aided design, 3D printing, robotic sewing and other technologies accessible in open workshops, coworking spaces or labs allow fashion to take a whole new approach to designing and producing high, sustainable quality and innovative designs.

Team

The project involves an international consortium of experienced partners regarding technology, research, fashion, and design, as well as art-tech transfer expertise.
